shop sample: alyssum slip-over poncho
The Alyssum Slip-Over Poncho by Marie Greene is one of the inspired designs in her new book, "Knitting Light". This design uses geometric lines to create a shape that is flattering for any size. The drapey fabric in this piece makes it a wearable light layer, perfect for transitional seasons or cool summer evenings. This slip-over poncho is worked flat from side-to-side in one piece, beginning at the sleeve edge. Seed stitch borders create visual interest. Minimal finishing with small seams at the sleeve edges transform the flat piece into its shape. This easy-fit design fits bust sizes of 30 to 62 inches.
Sarah knit our sample using HiKoo Rylie, a luxurious sport to light DK weight yarn that is a blend of 50% baby alpaca, 25% mulberry silk, and 25% linen. She chose a neutral light gray for her version, but any color in the Rylie palette would suit this piece.
The pattern was designed in Berroco Remix Light, which also creates a light, wearable fabric for this handknit poncho. Check out our collection of yarns great for many of the patterns in "Knitting Light"!
