Flynn by Julie Weisenberger (Cocoknits) is a versatile vest pattern that allows you to knit your own natural fiber fleecy vest. This cozy handknit vest has angled front pockets to warm your hands, with a zipper and a folded stand-up collar. It's an easy-wearing wardrobe classic.
The Flynn pattern uses a modified Cocoknits Method, incorporating the collar into the upper back at the start and using short row shaping to create a diagonal pocket opening. You can opt-out of the zipper to leave it as an open vest. However, there is a fantastic zipper tutorial on the Cocoknits website. Sarah sewed her zipper in and afterward even volunteered to sew in Julia's when it's finished!
Sarah knit our sample using 4 skeins of Urth Lanalpaca, a fluffy boucle superbulky weight blend of 50% superbaby alpaca and 50 merino wool. Lanalpaca is so incredibly soft and surprisingly nice to work with. It's available in a lovely palette of colors from neutrals to bright jewel tones. Flynn is the ultimate cozy vest for layering under a jacket or over a long sleeve tee – it’s a warm hug on a chilly day.
The Cocoknits method is fully explained and documented in Julie Weisenberger's book "Cocoknits Sweater Workshop". The Cocoknits website also has great resources for the method, as well as several tutorials.
