shop sample: rhythmic shawl two-color handknit shawl
Rhythmic Shawl by Nurgun Bayazit is a classic triangle shawl knitted top down designed using shadow knitting. The shadow knitting technique uses garter stitch and stockinette stitch together to create a shadow pattern on the fabric that is only visible when the shawl (or person wearing it) moves. Rhythmic can be knit using two sharply contrasting colors (as shown) to accentuate the shadow effect, or using a slow color-changing yarn to give a more subtle impact.
Our sample (provided by Urth Yarns) was knit in 3 skeins of Urth Harvest Fingering (100% superwash merino dyed using plant based dyes). The striking shadow effect is visible in the zig-zag pattern of the fabric in the top photo and the delicate lace edging frames the pattern.
