Olive Knits 2024 January Workshop KAL Yarn Suggestions

Olive Knits 2024 January Workshop KAL Yarn Suggestions

Are you participating in the Olive Knits 2024 January Workshop KAL? This year is a virtual adventure to Taos, New Mexico and knitting the Taos Valley Poncho.

The Taos Valley Poncho features the intriguing tuck stitch and the delightfully versatile duplicate stitch. We have several recommended yarn options (see below).

Sizes: one size (easily adaptable for petite and tall bodies, and can be customized)

Yarn:
Main Color: ~1300 yards sport weight yarn – solid color with good stitch definition (lighter colors will show the stitch better)
Contrast Color 1: 165 yards of sport weight yarn
Contrast Color 2: 165 yards of sport weight yarn
Accent Color: 80 yards of a dark, solid neutral (for the zig zag)

Yarn tips:
The design uses a non-superwash merino wool, but you can easily knit this in another kind of fiber, depending on what you like. We’ll talk about how to adapt if you’re using superwash yarn (or something slippery like alpaca). The primary concern is you’ll want to knit with colors that have a reasonable amount of contrast, so be mindful and cautious about using colors that might bleed.
