Berta Virtual Knit Along with Sarah and Knot Another Hat

Berta Virtual Knit Along with Sarah and Knot Another Hat

By popular request after Sarah knit her Berta Sweater, we're having a Knit Along (KAL) for this fun project! This deceptively simple sweater design from the Manos del Uruguay design team uses intarsia knitting to create a beautiful patchwork-inspired look. The result is a fun and striking checkered design. The simple construction of Berta, worked flat in pieces with drop shoulders and a straight body, makes for an easy knit with intarsia technique being the focus. The finished sweater is a boxy and comfortable fit that you won't want to take off. Beautiful in tonal and contrasting color combos alike, this sweater is designed in 3 colors each of Manos del Uruguay Marla and Sami, a soft and squishy 100% superwash merino wool. The marled colors of Marla and solids of Sami coordinate and allow for many color combinations. Details below (including pattern info and yarn recommendations).

Our fearless leader Sarah will lead the KAL! It will kickoff with a Zoom meetup on Saturday, May 31 at 9:00am PT (10:00am MT, 11:00am CT, 12:00pm ET), followed by two more Zoom get-togethers. Meetups will be recorded and replays made available to participants. Full schedule:

  • Meetup #1: Saturday, May 31 - 9:00am PT (10:00 MT, 11:00 CT, 12:00pm ET)
  • Meetup #2: Sunday, June 8 - 2:00pm PT
  • Meetup #3: Wednesday, June 25 - 2:00pm PT
Excited yet? Well, there’s more - registered participants will get 10% off their purchase of yarn (Manos del Uruguay Marla and Sami) for the KAL (one use per customer).

Yarn
: 1640-4921 yds** Manos del Uruguay Marla and Sami (DK weight)
Gauge: 22 sts and 32 rows over 4 inches [10cm] in Stockinette st
Needles: US 4 (3.5mm), or size needed to achieve gauge
Available sizes: finished bust circumference 36, 43.5, 50.5, 57.5"

**A note on yardage: Pattern yarn requirements are VERY generous. Sarah knit the size 3 using 1 skein each of 5 colors and 2 skeins of the color that was also used for ribbing. If you are knitting size 4, it may require 2 skeins of each color for a total of 3276 yds. In this case we suggest that you only wind one skein of each color until you absolutely need the second skein. Please contact us if you'd like help with color combinations or yardage requirements.
