shop sample: antipodes pullover handknit sweater
Antipodes by Andrea Mowry is a showstopper! Her annual design for the Rhinebeck festival, this pullover has a unique saddle shoulder construction, stripes, stranded colorwork, and faux seams to set off the colorwork. This handknit sweater is worked from the top down, seamlessly, beginning with the saddle shoulder, then picking pick up stitches for the back and fronts separately. Past the yoke, it is joined to work the body in the round. The sleeve stitches are picked up from the armhole openings and worked down in the round.
Sarah knit our sample lickety-split--like she does when truly intrigued by a pattern--using the tweedy Queensland Kathmandu Fingering (85% extrafine merino wool, 10% silk, 5% cashmere; 425 yds/100g) for the main color and Gusto Wool Echoes Fingering (80% extrafine superwash merino wool, 20% nylon; 440 yds/100g) for the contrast color. The slowly shifting color of the Echoes was the perfect match for the colorwork in Antipodes. Bring on fall and sweater season please!
Sarah put together some gorgeous color combinations using the Queensland Kathmandu Fingering with various colors of Gusto Wool Echoes Fingering, plus one combo using Malabrigo Ultimate Sock in the image above (each labeled with color names). We have several other solid yarns that will work for main color and color changing yarns for the contrast color, including:
Urth Yarns Harvest Fingering
Urth Yarns Trill
Friendly Products Variations Fingering
Urth Yarns Uneek Fingering
Fibra Natura Cobblestone
