handknit boxy cardigan closeup on shoulder

shop sample: modern wrapper

The Modern Wrapper by Churchmouse Yarns has long been a shop-favorite here at Knot Another Hat. When Kelbourne Woolens released the lightweight tweed yarn, Cricket, I immediately pictured it knit up as a Modern Wrapper.

The Modern Wrapper has a boxy, oversized fit that is ultra comfortable and forever wearable. They describe the fit as "one size to flatter every body", and I couldn't agree more.

We paired Cricket (4 skeins) with Berroco Aerial (5 skeins) for a fabric that is light, warm, and snuggly. It also works well with Malabrigo Mohair (6 skeins) or Madelinetosh Impression (4 skeins).

We may have gotten a bit carried away coming up with pairings to inspire you to make your own Modern Wrapper - you can see those here. 😉

  • I am wondering how scratchy the wool is. Is it 100% wool? The large skein. I can wear mohair, just not wool with scratchyness and roughness to it. I LOVE the modern wrapper pattern. It looks light weight once knitted, when I zoom in. Thank you

    Knot Another Hat replied:
The Kelbourne Woolens Cricket tweed is a 100% merino wool, not your typical rough feeling tweed. Merino is a softer wool and combined with the mohair/silk blend it is quite soft, in my opinion – everyone’s perception of scratchiness is personal, of course! >
