brioche rib textured handknit cowl modeled by a woman

Moire Cowl by Nina Holubcova is a brioche rib knit handknit cowl. The design uses lines of syncopated stitches to add subtle texture every few rows. The cowl is knit flat with selvedge stitches that make seaming easier and create neat edges. Seaming all but the last few pattern repeats creates a notch in the cowl to help it sit lower on the neck/shoulders for more coverage.

Sarah knit our sample in the design yarn, Gusto Wool Carmen, a fingering weight blend of 80% extrafine superwash merino wool, 20% nylon (440 yds/100g). The pattern takes advantage of Carmen’s half-and-half speckle and solid, achieving a 2-color brioche look with only one skein. Columns of brioche rib in reverse colors flow into each other, creating wavy color pooling effects in the middle. This handknit cowl pattern is brioche-beginner-friendly. An interesting and unique knit with a beautiful result!
