The Scrappy Yoke Sweater by Olga Putano is a great pattern for one-skein wonders or using up partial skein leftovers from past projects. This pattern is fun and also easy for inexperienced colorwork knitters - the floats are never longer than 3 stitches, and only 2 colors are worked at the same time. This handknit pullover sweater is worked from the top down, in the round, seamlessly. The very short collar is knit from the cast on before a few short rows are worked to shape the back neck. Yoke increases are worked mostly on one-color rounds. Separating for sleeves also is worked in one color stockinette. The lower body continues with the colorwork motif, after which the sleeves are worked. Sleeve choices include short sleeves or long sleeves that are straight or tapered to the cuff. The pattern is written for 4 colors but you can use as many colors as you’d like! Blank colorwork motif charts are provided to print out and create your own color combination.

Jill knit our sample using a combination of fingering weight and lace weight mohair/silk (held double) yarns. She used 3 fingering weight colors and 2 mohair/silk colors of Berroco Aerial The result is a striking balance of stripey color.

  • I’d like to learn how to knit hats. What’s the best way? Do you offer classes? A friend suggested a free knitting class online Norman of Nimble Needles to start but said it’s best to take a class.
What basics do I need to start?
    Thanks!

    Knot Another Hat replied:
We do offer classes! We just wrapped up a 2-session “First Hat” class a week ago, however, so it will likely be a little while before we offer it again. Not sure if you are local or looking for online classes but we have an assortment of online courses, including Learn to Knit, on our website here:  https://knotanotherhat.com/collections/online-courses

We will have another in-person Learn to Knit class coming up soon (likely in about a month). Our live in-store courses are posted here (you can see an example of past classes on this page too):  https://knotanotherhat.com/collections/classes

    Thank you!
