Time: 10:00am to 12:00pm PT

Join Jill to knit an Elton! Possibly Jill's favorite sweater of all time, you've probably seen her wearing one - she has knit 4 and is working on her 5th! Elton Pullover (by Joji Locatelli) is a lightweight pullover that was inspired the original Elton, which is a cardigan. It features the simplest stripes using two very different yarns: a fingering weight (solid stripes) and a lace weight mohair (translucent) creating a delicate texture.

Jill will guide you through the tips and tricks of making an Elton. You will have a break after the first 2 class sessions to work on your sweater and reach the point where you are ready for sleeves. Check out the other patterns in the Elton series - Elton (cardigan), Elton Tee, and Milton (long cardigan). If you'd like to knit one of the others, discuss with Jill before signing up.

Skill Level: This class is suitable for intermediate knitters on up. You should be familiar with reading a knitting pattern and swatching, and know how to cast on, knit, purl, perform basic increases and decreases, pick up stitches, and bind off.

Materials: Registered students will be emailed a coupon code for 10% off class materials purchased at Knot Another Hat, and will receive a one-time 15% off coupon for a post-class purchase good for 60 days. (*Discounts exclude classes, events, and consignment items.)

  • PatternElton Pullover is available for purchase on Ravelry.
  • Yarn: 1000-2400 yds total; 640-1600 yds fingering weight Main yarn AND 392-980 yds lace weight Contrasting yarn. See pattern details for sizing and the quantity of yarn required. (Check out our blog post from back in 2024 for color inspiration, however note that current yarns available will have changed.)
  • Needles: 32 and 16" circular size US 4 & 2.5 (3.5 & 3.0mm), or size to achieve gauge, plus a spare size US 2.5 (3.0mm) if you plan to use a tubular bind off as shown in the pattern.
  • Stitch markers
  • Waste yarn or Purl Strings for putting stitches on hold
  • Finishing needle (for weaving in ends)

    Homework:
Have your yarn wound (if needed). Following the pattern instructions for gauge, knit a gauge swatch in stripe pattern using both yarns in the round and block/stretch. Pattern gauge for blocked swatch is 20.5 stitches & 36 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch. Following the pattern instructions for your size, cast on and work the first 2 rows.

Class size: Class will be limited to 6 students.
